Littles and Disabilities

Any Little can tell you, sick or not, what an amazing coping tool littlespace is. It is often talked about how numerous Littles who have mental illnesses use their littlespace to cope, but I would like to take a moment to discuss Littles with physical illnesses and how littlespace can have physical affects, as well as emotional. Some Littles, such as myself, deal with physical illnesses and littlespace has helped me so much with dealing with it. I have Type 1 Diabetes, fibromyalgia, and gout and all of those things cause me extreme pain quite often. Sometimes the pain is so bad, I can hardly move and it causes my blood sugar to skyrocket into the 400-500+ range, which then causes a whole mess of other issues. My diabetes has left me incontinent, and when my blood sugar numbers are crazy it gets worse.

Littlespace has helped me tremendously when dealing with these flare ups. It helps me and many other Littles:

  • Stay positive

  • Have a positive distraction from the sickness

  • Find comfort, especially if you are alone

  • Relieve some symptoms

I have (knowingly) regressed since I was about 10 years old when I was first diagnosed with diabetes. It was the only way I knew to make myself feel better, because getting so sick so young was a huge blow to me. It can be very scary, even now, when I get very sick and have to go in the hospital. Littlespace is my happy place because it takes me back to a time when I wasn't sick and didn't have to think about any pain. It's one of the most precious distractions I could ever ask for. Sometimes just getting your mind off being sick can do wonders.

In littlespace, nothing else matters; not even being sick. When I feel myself starting to feel down about having illnesses or even being incontinent, littlespace keeps me safe. I can calm myself down, and being calm also helps my symptoms when they are really bad.

Knowing that it works every time I regress, I find so much comfort just in knowing that. There aren't many medicines that I can take for pain caused by gout and fibromyalgia because I'm a diabetic, so any sort of relief helps and the best part about littlespace is there are no harmful side effects like medicine may have.

One of my favorite things about using littlespace to help me feel better is using my paci. I clench my jaws together during flare ups and it hurts even once the flare has passed. My paci helps keep jaws apart, gives me something to suck which is equally soothing, and also helps me regress enough to be able to see.

Most Littles use littlespace to cope with one thing or another, and it's wonderful that it works for so many people! These are just some of the wonderful ways littlespace has gotten me, and possibly other chronically ill Littles, through some pretty rough times.
